Bravery Under Fire

There are moments in life when words seem to fall short—when someone’s actions are so courageous, so quietly heroic, they demand more than a passing mention.
Today, Guys, Guns, and God is honored to share the story of a young man whose integrity and courage deeply reflect the values we strive to uphold: responsibility, service, and the kind of bravery that shows up when it matters most.
Dear Friends,
It’s my honor to present an update on a guy I mentioned previously. Here’s a story about someone who has left a lasting mark not only on my life, but on the GGG project itself—Asher Yautz, a name I pray will one day be spoken with the respect reserved for those who quietly give everything without seeking the spotlight.
I met Asher when I was still writing Guys, Guns and God. He wasn’t just a firearms instructor—he was the real deal. Certified by the USCCA, serious about gun safety, and committed to training others with precision and patience. He didn’t just read my manuscript; he sharpened it. He gave me honest feedback, pointed out real-world blind spots, and even modeled for the instructional photos in the book. His fingerprints are on this mission in more ways than one.
But Asher didn’t stop there.
In January 2025, the unthinkable happened. Border Patrol Agent David C. Maland was tragically killed in the line of duty during a routine traffic stop. Asher was there. He lived through that violent, harrowing moment—a moment that could have taken him, too. But by God’s grace, Asher survived. And his courage in that situation… It’s hard to forget.
It’s easy to throw around words like bravery. It’s harder to live them.
Asher didn’t flinch. He didn’t freeze. He responded with the kind of grit and character you pray someone has in a crisis. Not because a camera was rolling. Not because anyone was watching. But because he made a vow—to serve, to protect, and to carry out his duty with honor.
We at GGG are proud of Asher. But more than that, we are humbled by him. His quiet dedication—first as a mentor during the development of this project and now as a border agent on the front lines—embodies what we mean when we talk about living with confidence, competence, and integrity. He reminds us that firearms, like faith, are not about power for power’s sake. They are about stewardship, preparation, and a willingness to step forward when most step back.
This isn’t just a shoutout. It’s a challenge. If you’re reading this and wondering what courage looks like—look at Asher. If you’re looking for someone who lives what GGG teaches—look at Asher. If you’re wondering whether the values of Proverbs still matter today—just read Proverbs 29:23:
“Pride ends in humiliation, while humility brings honor.”
Asher didn’t need a spotlight. He didn’t ask for recognition. But his humility earned honor, as Proverbs describes—through a life lived faithfully, quietly, and with backbone.
Asher: WE SEE YOU, AND WE THANK YOU!
And we pray for your continued strength, healing, and protection. You remind us why this mission matters—and what it really means to live ready.
